June 19, 2018. AFTER THE RAIN. This is one of a half dozen One-Eyed Sphinx Moths (Smerinthus cerisyi) that appeared on our deck and house on Conifer Mountain after the hard rain we had Sunday. As it seems they are nocturnal, I don’t know if they had just emerged or were trying to recover from the downpour. I’ve often seen the White-Lined Sphinx Moths here but this is the first time I’ve seen the One-Eyed variety. They are so beautiful and interesting!
